I was reading some of my Twitter naturalista's tweets and noticed a very positive trend starting in regards to financial independence, specifically by focusing on monthly spending. This resonated with me because I am embarking on new territories this year, with a jewelry line, vintage shop & other artistic projects, and my plans to travel to NY and attend more concerts/events. Preparation is key.
Just a few things I learned this morning (or maybe last night):
1. I drink coffee entirely too much. After making a midnight run to Starbucks last night and in considering my efforts to be healthier, I have to employ better habits or even healthier substitutions. Instead of coffee, I will try Teeccino, a tea that supposedly tastes similar to coffee.
2. I am in a constant state of sleep deprivation, therefore, I usually end up being more productive in the late afternoon/evening. I am slightly comfortable with being a night owl, but my work needs to cut back before 1 am.
3. I need to plan my meals ahead of time, preferably the day before. When I am busy, I tend to overlook my growling stomach and by the time I eat, it is usually well past 8 pm. In addition, I would like to incorporate more veggies and fruits, less sweets (which will be hard because I love desserts, but my skin doesn't appreciate it), more healthy calories, and less salt.
4. Hair. My hair. It requires a gentle hand and patience-- two things I am not accustomed to. Although I stick to my tried & true method of protective styles, the scarf, with the Spring approaching, I will opt for box braids & twists. I also need to make a cream or pomade to keep my hair line moisturized.
5. Spending/Budget. This is simple in thought and harder in application. Here is a rough draft of my list for February:
-No Starbucks
-No eating out
-No spending on hair products unless I have completely ran out.
-No spending on miscellaneous beauty products of any kind.
-Cut back on phone usage- lower the minutes & text package on my plan.
-No spending on books.
-Set aside money at a specific time during the month to pay off debt.
-Prolong big purchases until holiday sales and/or EBAY it.
-...which leads me to the next, final goal: Limit my Ebay purchases per month.
I plan to lengthen this list, if need be, and will share my triumps & obstacles as they come.
Peace, ♥!!!, and Light.

Yay for the commitment to financial management! I totally feel like the hardest part is identifying where your weak points are and looking to start from there. Definitely a step in the right direction! Now Starbucks and I had a serious....serious love affair, but in a quest to reduce my caffeine intake (per Docs orders) we had to part. It's been hard, but something I can live without. I'll be checking back for your progress reports!
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree! Surprisingly enough, I am starting to enjoy tracking my progress and pushing myself. Nothing but great things can come from this! Love your blog too!:)
